HFSA-01 is a hybrid pre-main amplifier utilizing the advantages of both vacuum tube and semiconductor. The tube EL84 delivers 14W + 14W power output. The model is equipped with bass and treble controls. The input stage has a built-in phono equalizer for MM-type cartridges, along with 3-channels of RCA unbalanced input terminals.

This model accepts speakers with 4Ωto 8Ω impedance. In addition, it has a headphone output.

The front panel is ornamented with Mahogany wood on both sides to enhance the retro appearance producing a rather relaxing atmosphere for more enjoyable audio life. HFSA-01 is designed with orthodox configuration, however, it fulfills the basic requirements such as sound quality and overall performance for a wide range source from high-resolution digital to analogue records that any generation and age demands.

Feature

The output vacuum tube EL84, a pentode equivalent to 6BQ5, is operated in push- pull configuration delivering extremely low distortion and

excellent frequency characteristics with ultra-linear connections. The driver for EL84 is a well-known Texas Instruments OPA604A, a high precision audio Op-Amp. Aurorasound developed a perfect phase inverter circuit with OPA604A to drive the push-pull operation in the most ideal way.

The tone-control section employs a CR-type for easy adjustments to achieve more rich bass and comfortable treble to meet listeners’ sound taste even with small-size speakers.   The phono equalizer uses Linear Technology’s semiconductor to achieve an excellent S/N characteristic with NF-type circuit configuration.

The power supply section is completely isolated between the vacuum tube and semiconductor to completely eliminating any interferences regardless of volume level and frequency range. The rectifier is of the super low noise Rohm’s silicon carbide diode.

The output transformer and power supply transformer are custom designed by Aurorasound, and manufactured by a Japanese company. This model employs carefully selected high-quality capacitors and resisters, as well.

8. FAQ about VIDA Supreme

 

1.What is LCR type equalizer? Why is this good?

LCR is stand for L=Inductor(transformer), C=Capacitor, R=registor. Three component consist a RIAA filter network to make equalizing the RIAA curve signal to flat, that is recorded on vinyl disk.  Most of all phono stage amplifiers in the market use C and R only, not use L. Because L is very expensive parts and L is not easy to keep same value of inductance factor in mass production. Aurorasound requested Lundahl , Swedish famous professional audio transformer manufacturer, to develop special L to keep high quality and reliability to satisfy phono stage technical requirement.  Sound character and advantage of LCR phono is,  low distortion and high resolution in low frequency range. This is good for spacial 3D sound images. Rich and strong mid range, stable and delicate in high range, good for Piano`s high note or JAZZ
top cymbal.  LCR is supreme solution for phono stage amplifier.

2. What is VIDA Supreme standard configuration? Why?

Standard equips two input, MM and MC low impedance.   Most of all modern MC cartridge is low impedance, under14ohm.  If you need more MM or more MC, please add the option cards in open slots.

3. Which is better, MC step up transformer or MC Head amplifier?

This is depend on each people choice. Somebody loves transformer sound, other prefers semiconductor HEAD amp. Transformer is very low noise due passive elements without power supply. HEAD amp is wide frequency range and high sped sound, and capability of fine adjustment with cartridge impedance.  Which is better.. ?   No.   Which you prefer ? is correct.

4.What is"Inverse RIAA"?

Many people has question what is this ?   Inverse RIAA changes CD/DAC  signal to analog cartridge signal that is RIAA frequency response.  Then output through phono stage amp. Of course, frequency range , SNR, and THD are worth than CD direct to Pre-AMP. But, inverse RIAA makes sound changes to much middle rich and condense the core of music. Digital sound is changed to what we called “analog sound” through filtering process. Some people do not like digital, they loves analog very much. This card is for those analog fetish people. This is option.

5.How to insert the option card after purchase?

It is easy to add new option card by yourself. Power should be turned off, and open the check window on top cover. Then insert the card carefully to the connector. After that, fasten the thumbscrews to fix the card.  If you mistake, do not worry, never brake the card nor VIDA Supreme.  If no sound or no LED light on,  card is not placed in correctly, please check the connector again from checking window.

6.What is benefit of external power supply unit?

Every power transformer is emitting induction noise and vibration. To eliminate those noise, power transformer should be placed far from amplifier. Phono stage amplifier is handling very small signal and x2000 gain, so very sensitive to those noise. External PSU is the best solution to make quiet amplifier.

7. Why MUTE button is large size?

MUTE button is useful at the cartridge up/down.  No need to touch pre-amplifier`s volume knob.

8.よくある質問とその答え

 

1.LCR型とは何ですか?　その特長は？

LRCのLはインダクターつまりコイルのこと、Cはキャパシタ、コンデンサのこと、Rはレジスタ、抵抗のことです。
コイルとコンデンサと抵抗の3種類を使ってRIAAフィルターネットワークを構成しアナログレコードに刻まれた周波数特性をフラットに戻します。LCRを使うことによりすべての周波数に対して一定のインピダンスとなり理想的なイコライジングと増幅が可能です。低域の解像度、ひずみ率が大きく改善され、高域の安定度が増しますのでライブ録音などの演奏者の熱気や会場の雰囲気が良く再現され、またピアノなどの高音の強打に対してもヒステリックになりません。一般的なフォノイコライザアンプはLを使わずCとRだけで構成されている CR型、またはNF型です。LCR型はLの部品があるためコストがかかり、またこのLは製造上のばらつき偏差があり量産に向いていないため大手メーカではどこも作っていません。オーロラサウンドはスエーデンのプロオーディオトランス専門メーカであるルンダール社に依頼して専用のLを開発し、ばらつき偏差を抑える工夫をしています。出荷時には1台1台のRIAA補正を+/-0.25dB以内に収めるよう抵抗やコンデンサのトリミングをしています。LCR型はフォノイコライザアンプの最終形といえるでしょう。

2. VIDA Supremeの標準装備とオプションについて

標準ではMMとMCの2つの入力を備えています。MMにはカートリッジの負荷抵抗値と容量値が変えられるSWを装備、MCはルンダール社製のステップアップトランスを内蔵し、現代の主流である14Ω以下のカートリッジに適応します。　オプションとしてスロットイン式の追加入力が2つあり、これに対応するカードを別売で準備しています。同様のMM、MCに加え15Ω以上のハイインピダンスMCカートリッジに適応したカード、12段階のインピダンス切り替え可能な半導体式のMCヘッドアンプ、逆RIAAカードなどがあります。

3. MCトランスとMCヘッドアンプの違いは？

MCステップアップトランスはMCカートリッジの信号をトランスを使ってその電圧レベルをMM並みに変換します。トランスだけを使い、増幅素子や電源を使いませんので非常にローノイズで、またトランス特有の空間再現性に優れています。VIDA-SupremeではMCカートリッジのインピダンスをLowとHighに大きく分類してそれぞれ専用のトランスを準備しています。外部からの輻射ノイズに弱いのが欠点ですのでノイズ発生元となるパワーアンプやデジタル機器から少し話して設置してください。半導体式ヘッドアンプはディスクリートFETとトランジスタを使ったアンプで、MCカートリッジのインピダンスに対して細かく調節することが可能です。広い周波数特性を持っておりワイドレンジで現代的なサウンドです。お好みに合わせてお選びください。

4.逆RIAAとはなんですか?

CDなどのラレインレベルのフラットな信号をレコードに刻まれたRIAAの周波数特性に変換するものです。このオプションカードを使いますとCDの信号がカートリッジの信号と同じ特性になり、それをVIDA Supremeを通して再生します。直接CDを聴くよりも音に厚みが増し音楽のエッセンスが現れるようなサウンドになります。これはデジタルサウンドにアナログ的な味付けをするものですのでオプションになっています。

5.オプションカードの装着方法は？

各種オプションカードはご自分で装着することができます。まずVIDA Supremeの電源を切ってください。それからオプションカードを背面パネルのスロットに差し込みます。その時上面にある小さな銀の窓パネルを開ければコネクタが正しく挿入されているかどうかを確認できます。最後に2つのつまみねじを締めてカードをしっかりと固定します。正しく装着されていれば前面パネルにある2つのLEDが点灯します。　詳しくは取り扱説明書に書かれています。

6.外部電源ユニットの長所は？

フォノイコライザアンプはMCカートリッジの微小な信号を約2000倍以上増幅します。これはパワーアンプの約20倍、プリアンプの10倍程度に比べて桁違いな値です。音楽信号だけでなく外部からの輻射ノイズや回路自身が発生するノイズも同様に増幅します。自分の電源トランスが発するノイズや振動の影響に対して大変敏感です。この影響を少なくするにはトランスを外部に出して別筐体にすることが最も有効です。

7. なぜMUTEボタンは大きいのですか？

レコードに針を下ろしたりあげたりするたびにプリアンプのボリュームを回していませんか？　アナログファンは一日に何十回とこの作業をするでしょう。回数が多くなりますとボリュームに負担がかかり故障の原因になります。VIDA Supremeでは大きいMUTEボタンを装備しこの作業を不要にしました。従来製品のVIDAをお使いのお客様からも大変好評ですのでSupremeでも採用しました。Aurorasoundのフォノイコライザアンプの特長の一つになっています。

1. NF+CR type phono stage equalizer amplifier
   NF type network for high frequency compensation and CR type for low frequency compensation.  NF and CR　combination system bring worm and transparency sound with low noise and low distortion performance.
2. Useful MUTE switch function.
   Large size MUTE switch that is VIDA series identity is very convenient for cartridge up/down. One touch sound shut down function will be no stress for disk play.
3. Two Gain setting switch and three position load impedance switch for MC cartridge and MM cartridge.High gain for MC, low gain for MM.

Derive the Maximum Potential of Headphones

　The balanced-drive configuration, having an independent
circuit block, one each for L & R, assures no leakages between L & R due to no common-ground design.
It has superb impulse response characteristic with high S/N ratio.
HEADA is equipped with four Aurorasound’s uniquely designed high-performance discrete amp modules in order
to accommodate high-resolution music sources which have wide dynamic range and frequency range.

　The volume control is of pro-use type, manufactured by Tokyo Ko-on Denpa, widely used in recording equipment.
The large size conductive-plastic potentiometer characterizes dB curve, which allows not only a smooth feeling,
but also a precise volume setting even at low-level. It also provides a perfect balance between L/R without gang-errors.
The power supply uses a toroidal transformer and schottky barrier diodes with high-speed and low noise precision power

supply circuit,which effortlessly supports the energy supply base for unprecedented performance of HEADA.

Versatile Design for Any Headphones

　There are two input channels, CH-1 has XLR balanced input as well as RCA connector.
The unit has a through-output terminal which delivers the input signal directly to the output.
The balanced output can accept both 4-pin XLR and 3-pin XLR, also an unbalanced ¼”standard phone
output is provided making HEADA an universal headphone amplifier.

　Unlike speakers, headphones’ impedances and sensitivities vary widely, therefore,
in order to satisfy any type of headphones to guarantee the best performance the maximum output delivers 2Wx2 power,
and gain is selectable between LOW and HIGH. It can drive headphones with impedances from 16Ω to 600Ω.

For your convenience, Aurorasound introduces a manual describing how to modify your headphones to balance type.

  　2024年4月16日で生産終了いたしました。

ヘッドフォンが持つ能力を最大限に発揮するバランス駆動

　バランス駆動方式は右と左のチャンネルがそれぞれ独立しており共通のグランドを持っていませんので、グランドを介してLRが

影響を及ぼしあうことがありません。また瞬発的な立ち上がりに優れ高いSN比を有しています。　弊社特製のJFET高性能ディス

クリートアンプモジュール4基のフラットで高い周波数特性低ひずみ率を生かしハイレゾ音源喪十分カバーできるバランス駆動方

式を実現しました。

　ボリュームにはプロのレコーディング機器で使われている東京光音波社製の27mm大型コンダクティブプラスティック型のdBカーブ

を採用しスムーズな感触、小音量での調節のしやすさとLRバランスが崩れない低ギャングエラーを実現しています。電源部には

弊社フォノイコライザVIDAで養ったトロイダルトランスと高速超低雑音誤差増幅方精密電源回路をさらにパワーアップし基本をしっ

かりと支えています。

いかなるヘッドフォンにも対応

　入力は2チャンネルあり、CH-1にはXLRバランスとRACコネクタを準備、また選択したチャンネル信号をそのまま出力するスルー

アウト端子も設けました。バランス出力は4ピンと3ピンXLRの2種類、シングルエンド出力には標準のステレオジャックを配し、いか

なるコネクタにも対応できるようにしました。

　ヘッドフォンはスピーカーと異なりさまざまなインピーダンスと感度が存在しているため、それらを適切に再生できるよう最大出力

は2Wx2, ゲインはLOWとHIGHを切り替えでき16Ωから600Ωまでのインピーダンスがドライブ可能です。さらに弊社ではお手持ちの
